St Ignatius of Loyola Relief Sculpture | 1700s Antique | 26.6"/ 67.5 cm
A RARE, large and beautiful antique 18th century wooden relief sculpture / panel depicting Saint Ignacius of Loyola (Ignacio de Loyola) a Spanish Catholic priest and theologian, who, with sixcompanions, founded the religious orderof the Society of Jesdus (Jesuits), and became its first Superior General, in Paris in 1541. Very rare and extraordinary antique woodwork artistry. This relief sculpture comes from a French monastery and dates back to the period of the 1700s.
